Venue: Black Swan, Belper
Beer: Deception, Abbeydale Brewery (www.abbeydalebrewery.co.uk), 4.1%
Accompanied by: some outstanding female company. Apparently they’re in a really good band? (ah, what was it called…something to do with badgers I think) The guitarist is a trifle deluded and egotistical methinks, but the ladies certainly lent an air of class and composure (despite drinking Strongbow)
Opinion: Oh yes, delightful. Delicious, in fact. This is a very rich pale ale, the colour of straw, with a distinctively fruity nose. This is closely followed by a sort of elderflowery tang and a smooth, pleasant finish.
When one staggers, frozen solid, into a quiet bar rapidly approaching closing time, one wants an undemanding beer, one that causes minimal stress and effort, yet soothes and calms the soul. This is that beer.
